If you’ve never participated in a White Elephant game/gift exchange before, you are missing out! I previously talked about shopping for Ugly Christmas Sweaters and how my best friend has been throwing an Ugly Christmas Sweater party for a decade now. At her party every year we play White Elephant. Now if you’ve never played before, here are the rules.

1. Each player brings one wrapped present.

2. Players draw numbers to determine what order they go in.

3. Players sit in a circle where they can see all of the gifts.

4. The first player selects a gift and opens it.

5. The following players can choose to either pick an unwrapped gift from the pile or steal a previous player’s gift. Anyone who gets their gift stolen can choose a new gift or steal someone else’s gift.

6. After all players have had a turn, the first player gets a chance to swap the gift he or she is holding for any other opened gift.

There are several different variations and additional rules, it just depends on how you want to play.

I personally think the funnier the better when it comes to what type of gifts to use for a White Elephant gift exchange. In the past, I would normally just grab something I wasn’t using from around the house to give away but last year I ordered a funny coloring book, Ed ordered the instant underpants (cost less than $6 each) and both of those gifts were stolen so many times! It was hilarious! It’s not as much fun unless a couple of the gifts in the bunch are gifts that someone may actually want or find funny enough to steal.

I’ve rounded up over 20 inexpensive gift ideas that are all Amazon Prime. Order today and have it by Saturday, in case you’re like me and wait until the last minute.
