As I pack for my trip to Riviera Maya to celebrate the New Year, I’m looking back on my year. It was such a crazy but good year. I know we always say that the years go by so fast but this year truly did for me. I’ve grown so much. I’ve had heartbreak and experienced new love. I walked away from my past to look forward to my future.  I saved money all year to finally buy a house (more to come on that). I was lucky enough to be able to lean on my parents, I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done for me and what they’ve sacrificed for me. Not just over the past year but for my whole life.  I also cherish the new friendships I’ve made this year.

Unfortunately when you go through a divorce, you also lose friendships. Sometimes friends take sides, sometimes friends feel threatened and sometimes you just grow apart. That happened to me this year. I like to try and blame it on my sudden uprooting to a farther city, but that’s ridiculous. If your friends are your friends they won’t care where you live or how far away you are, they’ll still stay in touch. But I’m okay, I’m sure we will find our way back to each other.

I gained so many more friends this year too. My work family is the greatest! The more time I spend with them the more time I want to spend with them. Our group texting is ridiculous! We started to plan monthly spa trips because everyone knows how stressful work can be! They were truly there for me during my divorce and are 100% on board with the choices I have made.

I’ve also gained new friends in an unlikely place…Instagram! That community is incredible! The small business babes and the fashion bloggers are so encouraging, helpful and inspiring. Community over competition, amiright?!

I’m also thankful for all of the traveling I’ve done this year. I’ve revisited some favorite places and have seen and experienced so many new places. Virginia Beach, Washington, D.C., Marco Island, Nashville, San Diego and now Riviera Maya, Mexico! I hope to wander more in the new year.

These photos were taken when we were in San Diego. I’m not trying to sell these dresses, they’re nothing special. Red to me screams strength, desire and passion. A passion for fashion and for finally putting myself out there and having the courage to start this blog. Above all, strength is definitely what 2017 brought me. I feel very blessed and of course my boyfriend/photographer always makes me feel beautiful.

I want to wish everybody a healthy and prosperous New Year! I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings me! What are you looking forward to most in 2018? Feel free to comment below, I’d love to hear from you!

xoxo, Katie
